Recommended File Types for Best Results
For the smoothest, fastest, and most accurate translations, we strongly recommend uploading original, editable source files. These file types allow us to preserve formatting, reduce turnaround time, and avoid unnecessary rework.
Image-based files, such as scanned PDFs or photos, do not contain editable text and require additional engineering work to extract the content before translation can begin. This extra processing increases complexity, adds time to the workflow, and can impact turnaround and cost.
Preferred file types include:
-
Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx, .docm)
-
Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)
-
Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)
-
Plain Text (.txt)
-
Structured content files (HTML, XML, JSON, XLIFF)
Specifics about Adobe InDesign:
Processing of Adobe InDesign (.indd) and InDesign Markup Language (.idml) files, is not enabled by default and requires a one-time setup. Please email support@jeenie.com to have the DTP workflow configured for your account.
Once the DTP workflow is available, you can choose to apply it to individual translation jobs as needed. Please bear in mind, because DTP impacts pricing, it must be selected intentionally during job setup.
When applying DTP, please follow the steps outlined in the DTP Workflow article to ensure files are submitted correctly.
Important Note on PDF Files:
PDF files are supported only when they are fully editable. If a PDF is scanned, image-based, or flattened, it is not suitable for translation and may require additional file preparation. This extra preparation can impact turnaround time and may incur additional costs.
To avoid delays or rework, please upload the original, editable source file whenever available (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or a fully packaged InDesign file).
Supported File Types
We support a wide variety of file formats to accommodate different content needs. While most clients work with standard business documents (see above), additional formats are supported as outlined below. To verify if your file format is supported, please reach out to support@jeenie.com.
Note: Inclusion in this list does not override the recommendation to upload editable source files whenever possible.

Preparing Files for Translation
This section provides guidance on how to properly prepare and submit files for translation in the Jeenie Translation Portal.
Different file types — such as InDesign packages, PDFs, business documents, or non-English source files — may require specific preparation steps to ensure accurate translation and proper formatting.
Reviewing these guidelines before submitting your job will help avoid delays, preserve document integrity, and ensure the best possible outcome for your translated materials.
