Relay interpreting is when two interpreters for different languages are in the same session, interpreting for your client.
An example would be, if a Central Indigenous Language currently had no English interpreters, so there would be one interpreter for the Central Indigenous Language to Spanish and then another interpreter for Spanish to English.
Another form of Relay interpreting would be when a Deaf client does not use American Sign Language, so the session would have a Certified Deaf Interpreter and an ASL interpreter, working together to help the Deaf client.
Because Relay interpreting requires two interpreters, this would be only available pre-scheduled. Pre-scheduling is available for Plus, Premium, and Enterprise Plans. If you have never pre-scheduled a call before, please see Scheduling a Future Jeenie Call.
Relay interpreting will also be required to take place off-platform. For example, you can choose on the pre-scheduled request form from various different platforms, such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Doxy, etc. A valid link will be requested on the form at the time of the call being made; the request cannot be completed without it.
These sessions will incur a double-charge due to compensating two interpreters for their time and care. Please note, this will include being double-charged if the appointment is cancelled under 24 hours or if the link provided is invalid. Please see our Scheduled Call Policy for more information.
On your Jeenie account, in your Scheduled section, you will see two identical calls for the two different languages. Both of these calls need to remain on your platform until the session ends. While the calls will show in your Jeenie account, you would join the off-platform link at the time of your request and both interpreters will join the same link as well.
If you are requesting a Relay Interpreting session, you can submit the two requests yourself through your Jeenie account on the web app or mobile app.
Please be sure to let us know these sessions are connected in the Additional Information Section so that we can secure the best team possible. This can be a short message like “Relay call 1 of 2” and “Relay call 2 of 2”.
